Chemical / Bioprocess Engineer

The Chemical/Bioprocess Engineer will provide technical expertise in centrifugation and depth filtration unit operations within biopharmaceutical downstream processing. The role involves process optimization, scale-up, and troubleshooting to support manufacturing consistency and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead process characterization and optimization of centrifugation and depth filtration steps for biologics purification.
• Evaluate equipment performance and develop scale-down models to support process understanding.
• Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and process validation.
• Analyze process data and implement improvements to enhance yield, throughput, and process robustness.
• Support investigations and root cause analyses for deviations related to filtration and clarification operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3–7 years of experience in downstream bioprocess engineering, with a focus on centrifugation and depth filtration.
• In-depth knowledge of fluid dynamics, filter media selection, and separation principles.
• Familiarity with GMP manufacturing and process validation requirements.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Model Validation & Performance Analysis: You support model validation and performance scale‑up activities by analyzing field and test data, comparing results against models, and feeding insights back to R&D.
• KPI Definition & Data Quality Management: You define relevant KPIs for model validation and performance assessment, ensure data quality of critical input parameters, and contribute to consistent reporting standards.
• Sorbent & Technology Evaluation: You assess the performance of new sorbent materials under process‑relevant conditions and support fundamentals workstreams related to emerging DAC technologies.

What we offer:

At Climeworks, our six-month internships offer a hybrid work setup, giving you flexibility while ensuring valuable collaboration by working onsite at least three days per week. Responsibilities of Process l engineer are the following - but not limited to:

• Work as an onsite Process Engineer in a process plant environment

• Deliver designs and Engineering packages related to process engineering for industrial plants.

• Define the scope of work discussing with customer, coordinate with the offshore team if required and deliver the engineering deliverables.

• Coordinate with customer to collect all the required inputs to complete the engineering design.

• Coordinate with vendors and construction team to get the required information for completing the design and technical evaluation of vendor quotations.

Skills Required:

• Should have worked as a Process Engineer for industrial plants (Chemical, Agrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Fine chemicals, Specialty chemicals, Food & Beverages)

• Ability to prepare and understand PFD, P&IDs, mass & energy balance calculation, hydraulic calculations without any supervision

• Understand basic chemical engineering fundamentals like heat transfer, fluid mechanics, solid handling, mass transfer etc.

• Should be able to specify process plant equipment and hands on experience in selection of equipment as per project requirement

• Should be able to specify pump, heat exchanger, tank and other equipment independently

• Experience in design of utility systems of chemical process industries.

• Experience in sizing and selection of safety devices and process safety management activities

• Conversant with AutoCAD and MS office application is a plus.

• Familiarity with AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow and any other hydraulic calculation software will be added advantage

• Responsible for new product formulation, revision, evaluation and validation prior to approval for mass production.
• Establish specs on all new and existing products to ensure the safety and quality of products.

Position Summary: The Manufacturing Leader is responsible for leading and setting the direction for one of the plant locations with overall responsibility for safety and environmental stewardship, productivity and costs, equipment reliability, and employee staffing and development.

The base salary range for this role is $130,700 to $196,100 annually.

Position Summary: The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting plant operations in meeting daily KPIs by providing troubleshooting, rapid problem solving, and process improvements. The Production Engineer will develop strategies for projects to improve plant performance. Also provides operator training by developing, maintaining and conducting training programs.

• Improve the baseline value of key area metrics toward entitlement values (or beyond entitlement values where possible).
• Troubleshoot area process issues and de-bottleneck systems to maintain safety and environmental compliance and/or maximize production
• Ensure daily Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met or exceeded
• Implement robust control plans for process improvement projects by fully utilizing DCS (distributed control system) capabilities
• Responsible for accurate production recording and OEE/Utilization calculations
• Report process conditions and upsets to management
• Monitor production in terms of quality, yield throughout cycle times, process parameters, and safety and environmental regulations

Develop and maintain documentation (standard operating procedure (SOPs), work instruction, SMR, PFMEA etc.) 4. Data analysis & reporting: a. Collaborate with data engineer to collect and analyze production data to identify trends and improvements opportunities. b. Prepare reports on process performance, KPIs and project outcomes. c. Utilize statistical tools for process control and optimization. 5. Project Management: a. Lead and support process improvement projects from conception to implementation. b. Coordinate with cross-functional teams (R&D, supply chain, quality) to ensure project success. c. Manage budget, timelines and resources for engineering projects. d. • Lead the timely and successful transfer of the cell culture or purification stages of the customer’s manufacturing process(es) into the Lonza Singapore production facility. Work with other MSAT team members, technical experts from Lonza’s customer companies or Lonza donor sites, Manufacturing (MFG or equivalent experience), Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and other departments on the technology transfer.
• Lead the preparation, execution, process monitoring, and post-campaign activities for cell culture or purification stages of the customer’s manufacturing processes at Lonza Singapore production facility.
